Foxglove Toddler Sessions

Our Foxglove Forest School sessions are for children under five.

If you come along, your child can independently explore the natural world, learn more about it, have sensory experiences and try different craft activities.

The session starts seated in a log circle. We sing hello, meet Freddie Fox, remind him of the rules of Forest School, check the weather and the leader will introduce the craft activity.

Then there is free play! Let your little one take the lead, choose what they want to do and spend as much or as little time on each thing as they want.

The setup varies week to week, but there is always a mud kitchen, water, mark making, minibeast hunting and digging. And if there is something your child needs that they can’t see – an extra magnifying glass? Some guttering? A crayon? One of you can ask the friendly leader and they will do their best to sort it out for you.

There is a different craft activity each week, which – like everything – is optional. If your child seems to want to simply pour water from one container to another or look for worms for the whole session they won’t be the first or last to do so! The craft could involve painting, sticking, weaving or whittling. And sometimes, especially when it gets chilly, we have a fire.

At the end of the session, everyone helps to tidy up and we read a story back at the log circle.

"We absolutely love forest school. My little boy is in his absolute element exploring nature, looking for worms, toasting marshmallows and learning something new about the world around him. I just love watching him explore and it's definitely a highlight of our week."
